Before IPMS came on board, this project was running behind time and well over budget. To get the project back on track, the quantity surveyor adopted a comprehensive value-engineering approach. The team started with a complete design and tender review, followed by a ‘wants versus needs’ analysis with the client.
We then sought alternative pricing, using the team’s relationships with local suppliers to supplement products like-for-like, getting better pricing for the more expensive items. IPMS engaged with two tenderers, working with them in a competitive environment to find where further savings could be achieved and adopting the best solution possible.
Altogether, our team’s comprehensive review resulted in a $200,000 saving on the original budget, enabling the school to move forward into the construction phase with confidence.
